Explorer Program
San Luis Ambulance Explorer Program

San Luis Ambulance proudly sponsors an Explorer Program for young adults between the ages of 15-1/2 to 21 years old. This unique, volunteer program allows the Explorer to ride-along with Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians. This allows the Explorer to get a hands-on and up-close experience into the world of emergency medicine.
Some of the skills an Explorer will learn include performing CPR, administering oxygen, bandaging, splinting and obtaining vital signs. San Luis Ambulance provides all of the required training including CPR and basic first aid. Uniforms, belts and identification cards are also provided, however, the Explorer must purchase their own boots (approximate $50.00 cost).

An Explorer is required to perform eight hours of ride-a-longs per month with a pre-designated Explorer Advisor, in addition to attending one monthly meeting that lasts approximately one hour.
Explorers are selected once a year by a panel of Explorer Advisors.
The Explorer Program is a challenging and highly rewarding experience for the participants.
