1. Minimum Qualifications
   1. 21 years of age.
   2. Possess a current California Driver's License.
   3. Possess a current SLO County EMT certification.
   4. Driving record in compliance with SLA policy regarding insurability.
   5. Possess a High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
   6. Possess a current CPR certification.
   7. Possess a current California Ambulance Driver's License
   8. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
   1. When required, assess each call situation to determine the best course of action and the most appropriate BLS treatment protocol.
   2. Use medical supplies, medications, equipment and procedures including but not limited to, spinal immobolization equipment, oxygen adminsitration equipment, suction devices and CPR and other procedures required to provide the highest quality pre-hospital patient care.
   3. Assist Paramedic partners with the delivery of ALS care. Assisstance in this regard includes, but is not limited to, IV preparation, taking vital signs, placing patients on the EKG monitor and pulse oximery.
   4. Ability to triage patients utilizing the SLOCO EMSA approved triage system (START), according to SLA and SLOCO EMSA policies and protocols.
   5. Lift and move patients as required to facilitate transport and treatment.
   6. Communicate with Base Station Hospitals and other receiving facilities to receive medical direction and to provide critical patient care information.
   7. Communicate treatment and transport information to patients and family in a clear, accurate and compassionate manner.  Assume a "team leader role" and take responsibility for scene management when required.
   8. Operate the ambulance and/or provide map reading support to minimize call response time.
   9. Educate EMT partners on new and/or changing treatment, EMS system and SLA information as needed.
   10. Communicate with Med-Com dispatchers in a clear, concise, and courteous manner via phone and radio to effectively receive and manage calls.
   11. Maintain the overall condition of the unit in a manner that maintains the SLA professional image.
   12. Actively participate in community education programs to maintain the SLA professional image and establish strong community relations.
   13. Document all treatment and transport activites in an accurate, concise and complete manner.
   14. Follow all SLA and SLOCO EMSA policies and procedures.
   15. Consider patient status and requests when determing transportation destinations.
   16. Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
   17. Actively participate in the education and training opportunities offered by SLA.
   18. Other duties as assigned by the Division Supervisors, Field Supervisors, Operations Director, General Manager, Vice President or President/CEO.
